§ 4-18. Penalty clause.

  • City law enforcement officers and community service officers shall have the authority to issue citations for violations of this chapter on approved citation forms. The citation shall describe the nature of animal violation, the description of the animal(s) involved, the location of the incident(s), indicate the amount of the fine, that the violator has the option to contest the violation with the city's special master and give notice to the violator that the fine must be paid within ten (10) days. The fine amount shall be fifty dollars ($50.00) if paid within ten (10) days. If not paid within ten (10) days of issuance, a late fee of fifty dollars ($50.00) will be added. If the animal owner refuses to execute the citation, fails to pay the fine within twenty (20) days of issuance or if requested by the animal owner, the case will be referred to the special master. This penalty clause shall not be applicable to dangerous dogs.

Ord. No. 18-03 , § 1, adopted Apr. 10, 2018, repealed § 4-20 which pertained to warning signs for guard dogs and vicious dogs and renumbered former §§ 4-21—4-26 as §§ 4-18—4-23. Former § 4-20 was derived from Ord. No. 87-19, § 7, adopted Nov. 10, 1987. The historical notes of said sections have been preserved for reference purposes.
