§ 6.03. Qualifying.

  • Each candidate for the offices of mayor and of councilmember, as conditions to becoming eligible for election, shall:

    (a)

    File with the city clerk a written notice of candidacy, signed by the candidate, legibly showing the name and residence address of the candidate, declaring the candidate's intention to seek the office of mayor or of councilmember, specifying the office, and in the case of the office of councilmember, identifying the council seat for which the candidate wishes to qualify, and, in any case, affirming that the candidate meets all qualifications for the office.

    (b)

    File with the city clerk a petition signed by twenty-five (25) or more electors of the city, legibly showing their names and residence addresses, endorsing the candidacy of the candidate.

    (c)

    Meet, at the time of filing the notice of candidacy and continuously throughout the period of time preceding the election, all qualifications for the office.
