§ 5-285. Construction beyond line prohibited; exceptions.

  • It shall be unlawful to build any bulkhead, retaining wall, dike or other construction, obstruction or fill where any portion of such structure, obstruction or fill will extend beyond or be constructed channelward of the bulkhead line as herein established and located, except as follows:

    (a)

    Open docks may extend channelward of the bulkhead line if approved as outlined in the zoning ordinances of the city now in force or hereafter enacted.

    (b)

    Steps for pedestrian use may be constructed and maintained to permit access to and from boats or the Halifax River Beach, so long as such steps do not project more than four (4) feet channelward of the bulkhead line.
