§ 2-170. Petition for place on ballot.

  • (a)

    Candidates for the office of council seat or mayor shall be nominated only by petition. Each elector signing a petition shall add to his signature the date of signing, but may sign no more than one (1) candidate's petition for each district to be filled. All signatures shall be made with ink.

    (b)

    Each candidate shall use the petition form approved by Florida law and shall have the petition completed and executed in compliance with Florida law. Only petitions meeting the exact requirements of Florida law will be accepted and the signature verified.

    (c)

    Such petition shall be filed with the city clerk during normal business hours on any business day during the qualifying period as established by the Florida Election Code and as published by the Volusia County Supervisor of Elections. The names of all candidates and the offices for which they have filed shall be received by the supervisor of elections from the municipal clerks as required by Florida law.

    (d)

    Such petition shall be supplied by the city clerk and shall be the petition approved by Florida law. Petitions may be obtained from the city clerk up to thirty (30) days before the beginning of the qualifying period identified in subsection (c) above.
