§ 18-1.1.1. Definitions.

  • The following words, terms and phrases when used in this article, shall have the meanings ascribed to them in this section, except where the context clearly indicates a different meaning:

    Deviating truck means any truck in the restricted vehicle classification which travels over a street other than a designated truck route.

    Hazardous material warning placard means the standard, diamond-shaped sign as required by 49 C.F.R. 172, as part of the hazardous materials transportation act.

    Truck means any vehicle designed, used or maintained for the transportation of property in the following classifications:

    (1)

    Nonregulated vehicles (light trucks) means personal pickups and passenger vans, including church, school and public buses, postal delivery and residential service providers. Nonregulated vehicles may operate anywhere within the city limits.

    (2)

    Regulated vehicles (medium and heavy trucks) means any vehicle, other than the above-described nonregulated vehicles designed, used or maintained for the transportation of material, including dump trucks, tractor trailers and semitrailer combinations.

    Truck route means certain streets as designated on the truck routing plan, attached to and made a part of the legislation from which this article is derived, over and along which trucks in the regulated vehicle classification shall routinely operate within the city during designated hours.
