§ 17-46. Required; qualifications of applicants; investigations.

  • (a)

    It shall be unlawful for any person to drive a taxicab in or upon the streets of the city unless and until such person shall have first obtained from the chief of police of the city a taxi driver's permit, as hereinafter set forth.

    (b)

    Any person having resided continuously in the County of Volusia and State of Florida for not less than six (6) months immediately preceding the making of an application for a driver's permit, and being twenty-one (21) years of age or over, may make application to the chief of police of the city for a driver's permit.

    (c)

    It shall be the duty of the chief of police to make an investigation to determine the moral character and fitness of the applicant and the knowledge of the applicant of the provisions of this chapter and of the traffic laws of the city.
